HISTORY
The heart of the winery
The Marchesi Ginori Lisci Winery lies in an area of about 2000 hectares in the hinterland of the Val di Cecina, southwest of Volterra, not far from the fascinating medieval village of Querceto. The wine-making activity of the Marchesi Ginori Lisci family, well-known for the historic porcelain manufacture, started in 1999 with the implantation of the first vineyards and the production of 9 organic wines, amongst which the famous Castello Ginori with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah vine varieties. The ambition of the winery today is to look back with pride at its history without losing sight of the future; an example is the setting up of a biogas plant which expoits the fermentation of products and transforms it into renewable energy for the village and for over 1280 families.

The heart of the winery
In 2003 some of the old buildings in the village of the Castello Ginori di Querceto were restored to house the new cellar. The ancient theatre of the village was transformed into a barrel cellar and is especially interesting: the original stage was restored and is now used for wine-tastings.
CASTELLO GINORI LISCI DI QUERCETO
Pulchrius lumine trino?
Querceto, from the moment you see it, produces two strong emotions: that of travelling through history and that of being immersed in nature.
As you drive along the lovely road climbing up the hill your gaze gets lost in endless sweet green views until finally, way up on top, you catch a first glimpse of the outline of the village and castle standing out against the clear blue sky.

You can spend the night in one of the holiday apartments, decorated in pure Tuscan style.
Entering Querceto, on foot as in ancient times, is a transformation involving all of the senses: time changes its rhythm, smells become more intense, thoughts and voices of people mingle in the alleys of the village. Here every breath speaks of a place where time has never stopped.

Querceto is more alive than any other place: in Querceto the verb to live takes on a deep and intense meaning, tradition expresses itself firmly, nature and the countryside flow slowly and strong, the eyes of all creatures greet the splendid setting of the sun that floods Querceto every day.
